Launching An Indian Restaurant To Digital Success
Kadirs Indian Street Kitchen needed help
launching his new takeaway and restaurant.
Kadir’s Indian Street Food is a not your typical Indian Restaurant. Based in the heart of Southsea, the food at Kadir’s is simple yet remarkable. Made from high-quality ingredients, cooked earnestly and offered in a considered and regularly changing menu that spans Indian street food, cross-regional curries and tandoori specialities.
In a highly competitive market, Kadir really needed a definitive voice, a unique brand with plenty of thought behind it. The styling of the new branding would be modern and minimal but still convey the traditional approach to dining that the restaurant offered.
As we would expect from an Indian restaurant in Portsmouth, the aim was to create a strong brand that could be carried through lots of uses. The new logo would form the basis for big signage out front, be carried into the interior in menus and also form the basis of the online presence in social media and a new website. All this had to be achieved within a tight timeframe, enabling external contractors to create the new signage and then synchronise the launch of the rebranding which was due to take place all within a few weeks. I do love a challenge!
To begin this project and refine the brief, I collaborated with the client to carry out in-depth competitor analysis. My analysis revealed that a modern serif font would be the way to go. We created the initial series of concepts which were remarkably similar in style for the first stage. These were all based on subtly different serif fonts that would look fairly similar to the untrained eye, yet have resulted in noticeably different effects. My research had also found that left aligned layouts worked well for restaurants, I was happy with my experimentations in this style which gave a good foundation.
Once we’d finalised the colour scheme for the logo I was able to quickly create the final logo design files. This meant I could get the appropriate vector files to the client, to initiate the manufacture of the main sign while we created other designs, for social media. I quickly started working on business cards, restaurant and takeaway menus and loyalty cards to ensure Kadir’s was ready with all marketing materials well in advance of their grand opening.

With branding in place, I utilised the colour scheme and typography to create a striking, image-rich layout for a fantastic looking site which is sure to get anyone in the mood for fine dining.
The website is fully responsive, with a clean, rich interface that allows users to navigate the site freely and with ease.
I initially set up and grew the key social channels for the restaurant and developed a strong tone of voice that appealed to young professionals living in Portsmouth.
By offering deals, promotions and giveaways I quickly built up a loyal social following that were quick to engage and share there experiences while dining at Kadirs.
