● About
A marketing consultant who doesn't just advise — I do the work.
I'm Helen Cope, a marketing consultant based in Portsmouth, working with businesses across Hampshire and the South Coast. Sixteen years, the whole marketing mix, one pair of hands.

I've been the agency, the hire and the freelancer — so I built the thing I wished my clients had
Most marketing consultants have only ever done one part of the job. I've done all of them, from every angle — which is exactly why I can be the one person a business needs.
I've built and sold a marketing agency, so I know precisely how they work from the inside — including why the good work so often ends up with a junior while you talk to an account manager. I've been a Head of Marketing, building a company's whole marketing function from scratch and growing its revenue to £3.7m in three years. And I've been the designer, writer and doer on hundreds of projects, for businesses from aerospace start-ups to local charities.
So when I say I can handle your whole marketing, it isn't a stretch. It's the job I've been doing, in every form, for sixteen years.
The difference
What is a marketing consultant — and what makes me different
A marketing consultant looks at your business objectively, works out what's really holding your marketing back, and builds a clear plan to fix it. That's the traditional definition — advice, a strategy, a slide deck, and then you're on your own to make it happen.
I work differently. As your digital marketing consultancy and marketing consulting partner rolled into one, I don't just hand you a plan — I stay and run it. You get the strategic thinking and the person who does the work, which is rare, and which is the whole point.
Whether you need strategic marketing consultancy to set your direction, or a marketing strategy consultant who'll also build the website, write the content and run the ads, that's me. One person, from the plan to the doing.
Consultancy or agency?
A third option
When your marketing needs to step up, you're usually told it's a choice between a consultancy that advises and an agency that delivers. I'm neither — and both.
The agency
A team — but usually juniors doing the work and an account manager in between.
The consultancy
Senior thinking — then it leaves you to execute it on your own.
Me
Senior, sixteen-years-deep thinking and the delivery, from the same person — with none of the overhead, the handoffs or the mystery retainers.
You deal with me from strategy to execution. And when you're ready to build your own in-house team, I'll help you do it and step back — because my job is to make myself unnecessary.

What clients say
In their words
“
Helen is a fantastic marketing consultant to work with. She gets to know the business and clarifies what we're trying to achieve each step of the way, with good humour. I look forward to working with Helen again.
— Ross Chapman
“
She started by really understanding our product, then built a plan around our clients and their frustrations, and designed our communications and marketing across events, print and web. Incredibly knowledgeable, with weekly summaries that are both detailed and strategic. I highly recommend Helen to anyone looking for a reliable, creative and strategic marketing consultant.

Local
Based in Portsmouth, working across Hampshire
I'm based in Portsmouth and work with established businesses across Hampshire and the South Coast — Southampton, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Chichester and beyond, as well as clients across the UK.
Working with a local consultant means you get someone who understands your market, who you can sit down with in person, and who turns up — not a distant agency or a voice on a monthly call.
FAQs
Marketing consultancy: your questions answered
What is a marketing consultant?
A marketing consultant is an experienced marketer you bring in from outside your business to work out what's holding your marketing back and build a plan to fix it. Some only advise; I go further and run the plan too, so you get the thinking and the doing from one person.
What is marketing consulting?
Marketing consulting is getting expert, objective guidance on your marketing — your strategy, your channels, your budget and where to focus. Done well, it turns a scattergun of random activity into a clear plan aimed at real business results. With me, that consulting comes with delivery attached, not just recommendations.
What does a marketing consultant do?
A marketing consultant reviews your business and market, sets a strategy, chooses the right channels, and measures what works. In my case I also do the hands-on work — building the website, writing the content, running the campaigns — so nothing gets lost between advice and action.
How do marketing consultants charge?
It varies — some charge per project, some per hour, some on a monthly retainer. I charge a transparent daily rate of £350 a day, published on the website, and you buy dedicated days to suit your needs. No hidden fees and no surprise invoices.
Should I use a marketing consultancy or an agency?
An agency gives you a team, but often juniors doing the work with an account manager in between. A consultancy gives you senior thinking, but usually leaves you to execute it. I give you both — senior strategy and the delivery — from one person you actually deal with, for less than either.
Let's talk about your business
Thirty minutes, no pitch. Tell me about your business and where it's stuck, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help — and if I'm not the right fit, I'll point you at whatever is.
