Cooperative All-Female Workspace — Magazine Design
A year's worth of magazine covers and inlays. Consistent creative identity across twelve issues, kept fresh month to month.
Twelve issues that had to feel like one publication
Editorial design over a year is a systems problem rather than a series of covers. The grid, typographic hierarchy and treatment of imagery were set first, so each issue could look distinctly its own while the publication stayed instantly recognisable on a shelf or a feed. That framework also made production faster every month, which matters more than any single cover when a small team is turning one around on a deadline.
Setting the system before the artwork is the same discipline behind brand guidelines — see graphic design for how that carries into everything else a business prints. Editorial work is also the fastest way to learn what a brand can stand: twelve issues will find every weakness in a typographic system. What survives that is usually strong enough to run the rest of a business’s print and digital output too.
