Leeds is the largest city in Western Europe without a tram or metro system. Plans for one exist, but construction isn’t expected until the 2030s — which means that for the foreseeable future, getting around Leeds means buses, trains from a handful of stations, or driving.
That makes a car more necessary here than in comparable cities, and it makes the question of how you pay for one worth thinking about. A short term lease is one answer: a modern car on one monthly payment, delivered to your door, handed back when your plans change. Choose a month, three, six or nine months, up to twelve or eighteen.
Leeds pulls people in. It’s the largest financial and legal centre outside London, and the professional services firms here take on cohorts every autumn — graduates, trainees, people relocating for a training contract or a two-year programme. Add three universities and one of the biggest student populations in the country, and a substantial share of the city arrived recently and hasn’t settled yet.
That’s a bad moment to sign a three-year car agreement. You don’t yet know whether you’ll end up in Headingley or Chapel Allerton, whether the commute works, or whether you need a car at all once you’ve learned the city. A six or nine-month term buys you the time to find out, and costs nothing to walk away from at the end.
Trainees and relocators. Training contracts and graduate programmes run to fixed lengths. So can the car.
NHS and public sector staff. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is among the largest trusts in the country, and the city carries a heavy concentration of public sector and healthcare employment — much of it on bank, locum or fixed-term arrangements.
Students and postgrads. Nine months of term time doesn’t warrant thirty-six months of finance.
Part-time commuters. People driving in from Wetherby, Otley, Garforth or the villages, who need a car some days rather than every day, and would rather not own a second one.
Businesses. New starters who need a car immediately, project teams that grow in waves, and work vans available on the same flexible terms.
All in: everything except insurance and fuel — the car, its servicing and maintenance, road tax, MOT, breakdown cover, and the delivery and collection at either end. One direct debit, and no separate bills arriving through the year.
Upfront: a refundable damage deposit alongside your first month, returned at the end. Mileage allowances are set when you book, and excess is charged at 65p a mile plus VAT on 1 and 3 month terms and 40p plus VAT on the rest.Allowances start at 1,000 miles a month below twelve months and 833 a month at twelve and above, with more available to select.
Not included: insurance, fuel or charging, and parking.
The terraced streets of Headingley, Hyde Park and Burley are unforgiving on width, and city-centre parking charges reward anything that fits a smaller bay. If your driving is mostly the M1, M62 or A1(M), the priorities flip to comfort and economy over distance. Our range covers both — city cars, saloons, SUVs and 4x4s, all new or near-new. If your mileage is mainly urban and you can charge where you park, the electric options are worth comparing on running cost.
Short term car leasing in Leeds means a car for a defined number of months, one payment, no long tie-in. The length is what you’re really choosing.
Three comparisons worth making
We deliver in 10–14 days. Slower than a rental desk, months faster than ordering new. The car is prepared, valeted and checked before it leaves, then brought to your address in Leeds. One call brings us back for it.
You insure it yourself. A handful of subscription services include cover in one monthly figure. Convenient, and normally dearer — a blanket policy can’t be priced on your individual record. Arranging your own and cancelling at the end is nearly always cheaper. We’ll spell out the cover required.
Cars come from the existing fleet. No configurator, no build slot, no date that moves. What’s quoted is what turns up.
Across Leeds and West Yorkshire — Headingley, Hyde Park, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Meanwood, Moortown, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Armley, Beeston and Holbeck — and out to Pudsey, Morley, Garforth, Wetherby, Otley, Wakefield and Harrogate. Your door or your desk; it makes no difference to us. It turns up valeted and ready to drive, with no depot to find, and a single call brings us back for it.
Every figure here is ex VAT, since that’s the number a VAT-registered business works to.
On recovery: expect to reclaim 50% of the VAT on the hire charges where the car can be used privately. Where a provider bills maintenance separately that element is treated differently. Ours is folded into the one monthly payment, so the question doesn’t arise. If a van would do the job, the treatment is more generous still.

It’s the cheaper answer to the same question. Rental prices by the day; we price by the month, deliver to your address across the city, and put servicing, road tax and breakdown cover inside the payment.
Yes — car subscription and short term car leasing are the same product here, the word usually shifting with the length of the term.
Yes — that’s what these terms are for. Choose the length that matches, and hand the car back at the end. An agreement that runs to its end date attracts no penalty.
Not with us, and be sceptical of anyone advertising one. You pay a refundable damage deposit up front with your first month, returned when the car goes back. Anyone advertising nothing upfront has generally moved that cost into the monthly figure where it is harder to see.
Yes — every Leeds car lease application includes a standard credit check. Anyone offering to skip it is generally recovering the risk through a larger deposit or a higher rate.
For a few days, use a hire company. For a few months, a monthly term is cheaper per day and you get a newer car delivered to your door.
Yes, across West Yorkshire and the surrounding area. Share the delivery address when you book and we’ll check it off.
You’re free to switch when a short period ends, and longer terms exist for when they don’t need to.
Flexibility and lower risk, particularly for anyone whose work or living situation isn’t yet fixed. You get a modern car without gambling thousands on a purchase, and you can step away if things change. If you’re still deciding, leasing versus buying covers the maths and subscription versus lease covers the mechanics.
Yes, and most of our business customers do. Quotes are ex VAT, underwriting sits with the business, and there’s no requirement for vehicles to share the same start or end date.
Usually, yes — a training contract is enough. A fixed-term or graduate contract is a known quantity, and the assessment is about affordability rather than permanence. Getting a lease car without a job explains what else supports it.
And if you're wondering who's behind all this: Drive Subscribe is an ACL Automotive brand — the team that runs short-term leasing for some of the biggest names in the business. The car's short-term. We're not.
