Manchester is one of the few English cities where you can reasonably live without a car. Metrolink covers a lot of ground, the centre is walkable, and plenty of people in Ancoats, the Northern Quarter or Castlefield manage fine most weeks.
Most weeks. Then there’s the client site in Warrington, the weekend in the Peak District, the family in Cheshire, the flat move, the new job that isn’t on a tram line. Owning a car for those is expensive; hiring one every time gets expensive faster.
A short term lease sits between the two. Take a car for as long as you actually need one, on a single monthly payment, and hand it back when you don’t. One month, three, six, nine, twelve or eighteen — those are the options.
Short term car leasing in Manchester starts at one month. Beyond that, pick the length that matches the situation rather than the one the finance company prefers.
Searched as 3 month car lease Manchester, 6 month car lease Manchester or 12 month car lease Manchester, it is one product with the term dialled up or down.
A 3 month car lease in Manchester covers a contract or a probation period. A 6 month car lease in Manchester covers a fixed-term role or a probation period. A 9 month term covers an academic or financial year.
For anything longer, a 12 month car lease in Manchester or an 18 month car lease gives the lowest monthly rate — worth taking if the requirement is already settled, and still far shorter than a conventional three or four year agreement. If you’re weighing this against a traditional lease, our guide to car subscription vs lease sets out the differences.
In central Manchester this is the thing that actually decides it, so it’s worth saying plainly: we deliver the car to you, but we can’t provide anywhere to keep it.
If you’re in a city-centre apartment, check what your building offers before you book. Some include a space, some rent them separately, and some have none at all — in which case you’re looking at a nearby multi-storey on a monthly permit, and that cost sits alongside the lease. Outside the centre, in Chorlton, Didsbury, Prestwich or Sale, it’s usually a non-issue.
Worth knowing what you’re not paying for, though.

City-centre residents who need a car sometimes. Not every week, but more than a weekend hire covers. Three or six months at a time fits that pattern better than ownership.
Graduates and new arrivals. Manchester keeps a lot of the people who study here, and the first year or two is usually spent working out where you’ll actually settle. That’s a poor moment to commit to three years of finance.
NHS and public sector staff. Bank, locum and fixed-term roles across the city’s hospitals and trusts, where the posting has an end date.
Contractors and consultants. Work booked in blocks, often across several sites a week, where the car should end when the engagement does.
Businesses. New starters who need a car immediately, teams that scale in waves, and work vans on the same flexible terms — including electric vans if you’re working in charged zones elsewhere in the country.
Central parking bays and the older streets around Chorlton and Withington reward something you can place easily — width and visibility matter more than power. If you’re regularly on the M60, M62 or heading over towards Yorkshire, comfort and economy at speed matter more.
Our range covers both — city cars, saloons, SUVs and 4x4s, all new or near-new. Electric options work well for mostly-urban mileage, but they depend entirely on having somewhere to charge. If you’re in a flat without an allocated space, be realistic about that before choosing one — our guide to the benefits of an electric car subscription covers where the savings actually come from.
Car subscription in Manchester, monthly car rental, short term car hire — the searches differ but the answer is the same: a car for a defined stretch, on a single monthly payment.
Across Manchester and Greater Manchester — Ancoats, the Northern Quarter, Castlefield, Hulme, Chorlton, Didsbury, Withington, Levenshulme, Prestwich and Salford Quays — and out to Sale, Altrincham, Stockport, Stretford, Urmston and Denton. Home, office or site — your call. Delivered clean and ready to go — no branch queue, and collection is one phone call.
Do I need my own parking space?
Yes — we deliver the car but can’t provide anywhere to keep it. In the city centre, check what your building offers or price up a monthly permit at a nearby multi-storey before you commit. Outside the centre it’s rarely a problem.
Can I lease a car for just a few months?
Yes. Terms start at one month and you can take three, six, nine, twelve or eighteen. Choose the length that matches the situation and hand the car back at the end — there’s no penalty for an agreement simply reaching its end date.
Can I get a car lease in Manchester with no deposit?
There is a deposit, and it is refundable. It sits alongside your first month at the start and comes back to you at the end, and it exists to cover early cancellation, missed payments or damage beyond ordinary wear.
Do you run credit checks?
Yes, on every agreement. Providers who skip the check normally charge a bigger deposit or a higher monthly to price in the risk.
How is this different from car rental?
Hire companies price for a weekend. We price for a season. Past two weeks the monthly figure works out lower, and the car comes to you rather than you queuing at a desk.
Is an electric car worth it in Manchester?
Greater Manchester has no charging Clean Air Zone, so unlike London or Birmingham there’s no daily saving to bank. The case here rests on running costs alone — which means it comes down to whether you can charge at home or at work. If you can, an electric car is usually cheaper to run over a few months. If you’d be relying on public rapid chargers, the gap narrows sharply.
Can we lease through the company?
Yes, and most of our business customers do. Quotes are ex VAT, underwriting sits with the business, and there’s no requirement for vehicles to share the same start or end date.
Do you deliver outside Manchester?
Yes, across Greater Manchester and the surrounding area. If you’re further north-west we also cover short term car leasing in Bolton. Give us the address up front and we’ll tell you what works.
Can I change car or extend?
You are not locked in. Swap at the end of a period, move to a longer term, or stop.
Why are short term leases getting more popular?
Flexibility and lower risk, particularly for people whose living or working situation isn’t fixed. Something new to drive, none of the money locked into it, and no difficulty stepping away. Our leasing versus buying guide weighs it up properly, and subscription versus lease explains where the two part company.
Figures are ex VAT, the way a registered business plans.
VAT in brief: if the car can be used privately, recovery on the hire charges is generally limited to 50%. A van used for business usually allows all of it. We don’t itemise ours. Maintenance sits within the monthly payment rather than beside it, so there’s one number to account for.
The detail sits in VAT on lease cars.
General guidance only — confirm your position with your accountant before signing.
